Deon Releford-Lee
Deon Releford-Lee is a black, queer, performing artist, creative director, Death Doula, host, educator, food maker, rump shaker, and generational curse breaker living in NYC. A proud graduate of Fayetteville State University, an HBCU, Deon earned a degree in classical theater and concert dance. After graduating, they dove headfirst into the regional theater and film festival scene in the Carolinas, taking on roles while being a teaching artist and choreographer. Along the way, they trained with some amazing dance companies, including Eleone Dance Co., Only Child Aerial Theater Co., Philadanco, and more, even working with Earl Mosley’s Hearts of Men at Ailey. Deon’s familiar ties to Virginia and West Philadelphia, coupled with the experience of moving around the country as a military brat; heightened their awareness to the disparities people of color endure around the world. From teaching summer conservatories in predominantly white communities in the South, to supporting the creation of a theater culture in Saudi Arabia, Deon has extensive experience in creating a safe and equitable environment to create art.
