Jim Porter
From 1980, I acted for over 10 years, in professional stage productions in Brisbane, Sydney and in regional centres in NSW. Included roles in: Brisbane: Waiting for Godot; As You Like It; Hamlet; Midsummer Night’s Dream; Mourning Becomes Electra; The Seagull; The Choir; Skitz and Frenzy; and Scapino. Sydney and regional NSW: Macbeth; St Joan of the Stockyards; Dirty Rascals; Mission Improbable; Manilla Yellow; Vaucluse House; Wasting Away; Beach Blanket Tempest; Cut and Running; Hot Water; and Isis Dreaming. During this time, I also acted in a number of mini-series and TV series. I retired from acting in 1993. I returned to university in 1997, and I have a bachelor’s degree in social science. From 2001 I worked in human services, working predominantly in Aboriginal Health. I resumed acting in 2013 after successfully auditioning for a role on Foxtel. Since then, I’ve had roles in films and also appeared in a number of TV commercials. I’ve also been making my own short films since 2018. My short film, ‘a LIV e’, has won acting awards for the lead young actress and my work, and it has been accepted into a number of film festivals. My five short films have won over 22 awards with our latest ‘aLIVe’ winning 12 of those
